TOP STORY  July 18, 2011      Young Achievers come up Big at AAU CLUB NATIONALS

Two Young Achiever athletes come up big at the AAU Club Nationals. Tristie Johnson and Kamal Karoso both come away with the Gold in thier events.  On Thurday Kamal and upcoming High School Junior took to the track in the morning of July 13th after a few weeks off and showed what made him the National Champion in the 300om.  Several athletes tried to run step for step with him, however he took a commanding lead after several laps and pulled away from the pack winning the Gold with a time of 9:13 well short of his personal record.  Kamal is gearing up to defend his national title and the AAU Junior Olympics in August.  Tristie Johnson an upcoming senior showed great poise as she started her quest for Gold on Wednesday July 13th, 2011. Tristie ran well in the first rounds of the 100  and 200 meter races.  She was 4th in the 1oom and 2nd in the 200m.  Saturday was a great day for the young women sprinter.  Tristie ran her persoanl best in the 100m with a time of 11.85 and 24.03 in the 2oom.  She went into the finals with the 3rd fastest time in the 10om and the fastest time in the 200m.  Sunday was the day, there were several great races in all age groups and many records broken.  As they lined up for the finals in the 100 meter Tristie came down the track  and came away with a Silver medal in the 1oom with a time of 11.91. In the 200 several athletes did not make the final because of injury, however Tristie stayed focused and blazed down the track with awsome form and came away with the Gold Medal in the 200 meter with a personal best time of 23.73, making her one of the premier high school sprinters in the country.   The Young Achievers coaching staff said, " This is just the beggining of a long road before the Nationals in New Orleans at the end of summer, we have to stay focused and work hard."  Several other Young Achievers perfomed well to include Cedrina Singletary which made the finals in the 200m placing 7th overall and ran her personal best of 25.9 in the prelims. Keana Gray just missed both finals in the 100 and 200 meters, she was 9th in both races, but ran personal best in each race and qualified her for the 100m at Nationals.  We look forward to seeing great things from these sprinters and many of the up and coming Young Achievers that had a big showing at the Primary Nationals to include Markeya McWhite 100m Primary Champion, Wisdom Colbert 40 Hurdle Primary Champion and Mak Colbert Shot Put Primary Champion with a new primary national record .

TOP STORY July 4th, 2011  Young Achievers at the USATF Youth Championships

Several Young Achievers to inlcude Tristie Johnson, Keana Gray, Ebony Wallace and Tyson Wright traveled to Myrtle Beach June 30-July 3rd to participate in the 2011 USATF Youth Track and Field Championships. Expectations were high for this group of young indiviuals at this meet. It was very difficult to advance trough the rounds.  Stiff competition from all over the country came to take the top spot in each event. Tristie Johnson and Tyson Wright met the challenge and made it to the finals in thier individual races. Tyson placed 4th over all in both the 100 and 200 meter hurdle events with PR's in both 26.22 and 14.24 making him one of the premier hurdlers in the country in the Youth age group. Tristies Johnson received 4th placing in the 200 meters  hoping to PR but came up short of that goal, however she showed that she is one of the primier young women sprinters in the country. Head Coach Byron Copeland said that he was very proud of the athletes for their accomplishments but realizes that there is a lot of work that needs to be done before participating in the AAU and USATF Junior Olymics. Congratulations to the Young Achievers and we look forward to wathing them in the near future at the Junior Olympics.
